Sauna Rituals
Our ritual experiences are enhanced by sauna guides trained in traditional rituals from Finland, Estonia and Germany, bringing these time-honoured practices to life and giving you a truly enhanced sauna experience. These rituals take place daily at our Bolands Mills location
Aufguss
Aufguss is a traditional sauna ritual that originated in Central Europe and has become one of the most immersive ways to experience the heat of a sauna.
During an Aufguss session, a trained Sauna Master pours water infused with essential oils onto the hot sauna stones. This creates a burst of steam that increases the heat and humidity in the room. Using a towel, the Sauna Master then circulates the rising heat throughout the sauna, directing waves of warmth around the space so everyone feels the full effect.
Pirtis
Pirtis is a traditional Lithuanian sauna ritual rooted in centuries of Baltic wellness culture. Unlike a typical sauna session, Pirtis is a slow, guided experience designed to deeply relax the body while gently stimulating circulation and recovery.
At the heart of the ritual is the use of veniks — bundles of leafy branches, usually birch, oak, or other medicinal plants. A trained sauna guide uses these bundles to softly fan, brush, and tap the body, helping to move heat around the sauna while stimulating the skin and muscles. The leaves release natural aromas and oils as they warm, adding another sensory layer to the experience.

Everything you need to know
What if I’ve never done a sauna ritual before?
Not a problem at all. Our rituals are designed for both beginners and experienced sauna-goers. Your sauna master will guide the experience from start to finish, explaining what’s happening and when to move between heat, cold, and rest. You’re always free to participate at your own pace.
Do I need to stay for the full ritual?
Most rituals last around 15 minutes. While we encourage guests to stay for the full experience, you are always free to step out if the heat becomes too intense. Listening to your body is part of the sauna culture.
Are the rituals included in my booking?
Yes. Our sauna rituals take place during selected sessions (Rituals). Spaces inside the sauna are limited, so we recommend arriving on time if you would like to take part.
